R51/3 Splash Ring
« am: 21 März 2020, 11:08:16 »

Hello all,
I'm new here, thanks for letting me in.
Nr. 1 in this diagram is the oil splash disc:
If I got it right, the assembly order goes like this: rear main bearing, this splash ring with its protruding side towards engine/bearing, the oil seal and then the wave washer. I think that this splash ring will sit loose in there, as the oil retaining seal is only 7 mm thick, not to mention that the workshop manual claims to mount this seal in such a way that it will stand out 1 mm.
Is this correct? Should it be that way, loose inside?
Or am I wrong, and it will be a tight fit?
Or am I missing something?
Thanks a lot for any help,
Micha Steinmann

Hi Micha,
that oil splash ring is fixed by the fly wheel of the clutch that will press it towards the inner ring of the bearing.
Best regards

this splash ring with its protruding side towards engine/bearing,
Vice versa. (outer protruding side towards flywheel)
Otherwise it will grind on the outer bearing ring.
